Spring Cleaning Series: Week 1 – Bathroom

Happy Spring (Cleaning)!

Today is the first day of spring, and perhaps you’re thinking you’ll get some of that spring cleaning out of the way this weekend! For the next 6 weeks, I will be hosting a series on spring cleaning. Check back every Friday for the newest post, and use the weekend to conquer that spring cleaning list!

This week we will concentrate on cleaning and organizing the bathroom! My bathroom is in serious need of some organizing love.

Usually it stays organized, at least somewhat, but I rarely stay in my own apartment anymore. Unfortunately, we’re stuck in an apartment lease until June, while I spend most of my time in New Orleans working with a client. I sleep at my mother-in-law’s house during the week to save money on gas, instead of driving the hour commute twice a day. Not spending time at my own apartment makes it pretty hard to keep it organized or clean the way I like it. Thankfully, my fiance does a good job of cleaning up while I’m not there, even if he isn’t the neatest person.

I used my new spring cleaning printable (link at the end of this post!), and got started!

First, I started with the bathroom closet, which was definitely in need of spring cleaning. I took one bin out at a time and went through its contents. I threw away expired medicines, or items I had not used in months.

Next, I took everything off the counters, and out of the drawers to clean everything. While putting everything back, I threw away some more items, and sorted things into their bins.

-Angels sing- Ahh, doesn’t this look so much nicer! I just love a clean and organized bathroom! After this, I also scrubbed the walls of my shower, the base of the toilet, and the floor. I had actually recently washed my shower curtain, so I was able to scratch that off my spring cleaning checklist right away! I love that feeling!

As an athletic trainer, my fiance’s tape collection is equivalent to my washi tape collection. I really had no idea that tape had so many different functions. I cleaned up his drawer by using bins to separate his tape, bandages, gloves and medicines. This looks so much better than the chaos it was before!

Thankfully, since I barely use this drawer it was organized, but I rearranged the bins some. I also threw away a few things.

Don’t try to do all your spring cleaning in just one day! I’m taking one day every weekend and picking a room to conquer, it is best to take small steps so you don’t feel overwhelmed!

Good luck spring cleaning your bathroom! Share your photos with me on Instagram @girlorganized or post them to the Girl, Organized Facebook page! I look forward to seeing you after pictures!

Okay, you’ve totally inspired me! My bathroom is actually not too bad — we just married and moved to our new house 10 months ago, so it hasn’t been long enough to collect clutter….yet. 😉 But my makeup vanity needs some SERIOUS help! Haha! But after seeing this post, I’m putting little organizers on my shopping list and am going to use them to organize everything.

Life just feels so much more put together when the house is organized. 🙂

So happy to hear that! Yeah, we moved into our current apartment last summer. Thankfully I threw a lot of stuff out and donated when we moved, so I didn’t have much to get rid of this time around.

I love the idea of splitting up spring cleaning into weeks!! Such a great idea! My drawers are always messy with hair accessories, toiletries, and athletic gear. I definitely need to get some containers for that.

Drawer organizers are the best for little things like that! I definitely don’t do my spring cleaning all in one day, its too much!

You’ve inspired me as well! It’s amazing how a little sunshine can get us motivated to clear away clutter!

Glad I’ve inspired you! The sunshine & warm weather definitely helps motivate me!

Thanks for the peek into your space. Your printables look great!

My favorite tip on your general list is opening up the windows. Clean air in the home makes such a big difference after a long winter!

    • April 12, 2015 / 10:32 AM

Yes! I love letting in the fresh air after being holed up all winter!

Always looks nice when you use colorful matching baskets! And sometimes just folding the towels differently can make a big difference too. Thanks for the info & pictures.

I love using little baskets to contain anything I can, especially medicines and such! One day all my towels will be the same color, and I’ll be really happy, but for now, just folding them nicely helps! Glad you enjoyed!

Thanks for the comprehensive checklist! It helps the task of spring cleaning seem a little less daunting when I can just take it one room at a time.
