How I Destress: The Zen of Adult Coloring

Let me introduce you to my new way to destress recently—adult coloring! With planning a wedding in less than 6 months while also working full time & blogging, it is crucial for me to chill out at the end of the day. I’ve tried reading before bed, but that has never been something I enjoy doing. Through social media, I discovered the world of adult coloring, and I was intrigued right away. At first, I just printed out some free adult coloring pages from Michael’s or Pinterest, and used some colored pencils and markers I had laying around.

It has been so nice to finally find something I enjoy doing that can actually take my mind off of everything. With reading or watching TV my mind has a tendency to wander to things I need to do, things I should do, wedding planning, wedding scenarios of what could go wrong, and other really bizarre events that will probably NOT happen. Seriously, my current worry is that what happens if all the members of the band and my photographer gets sick, and I have no entertainment or photos from my wedding. (Of course such things are detailed in contracts, thankfully, but still!) Among other crazy scenarios my mind is capable of imagining.

After I decided this was something I enjoyed, I decided to find a few adult coloring books I wanted. I LOVE Harry Potter, so after they announced they were going to sell an adult coloring book featuring all things Harry Potter, I ordered it. I also loved the designs from Johanna Brasford’s coloring book collection. Her’s is like a search and find but without being too tricky or obvious.

After purchasing these, I decided before I started coloring, I really wanted a nice set of colored pencils to use. I’m an adult after all, right? (Jury still out on that…) Of course, like any person, my first thought was to venture to Michael’s for a shopping spree! They are definitely the number one regarding art supplies, so I knew they would have the best options for colored pencils.

While I may not be the most artistic person, I did take two years of art in high school, and remember using Prismacolor pencils for a few projects. They were always very smooth, easy to blend and shade which is exactly what I was looking for in my set for coloring books. The only hard part of my decision was trying to decide which set to buy, but I finally settled on the set of 36. This was mostly because of the metallic gold & silver colored pencils, because I like shiny things. #NoShame If I had my way, the set of 150 is on my wish list.

The Prismacolor set has gorgeous colors!

Every night for at least 10-15 minutes, I’ll open one of my coloring books and continue working on a design I started. My mind actually settles, and doesn’t wander to crazy tasks I need to accomplish. Who knew the brain power you needed to have to color inside the lines! The designs in these coloring books are worthy of picture frames, which is one of the reasons I have been coloring them so diligently!

Usually, I color in bed, but on weekends, this is perfect!

I forgot how much fun coloring can be!

The finished product!

Ahhh the finished product is always so satisfying! I cannot wait to finish more pages in my coloring books. If you want to get started,  click here and select free pages to download your own free Prismacolor coloring pages!

When I finally finished a full page, and tried taking a picture, my cat, Phineas, was very upset that I stopped paying attention to him! As I tried taking photos of the finished product, he immediately started to walk across it. Then, he decided I was aggrevating him trying to get a cute picture…

If you are looking for Prismacolor colored pencils, check out Michael’s! Make sure to check out Michaels coupons for additional savings, in newspapers and online! I grabbed their 40% off coupon which is on their app or website!

I just bought my first adult coloring book tonight! I bought the Coloring for Tranquility book and plan on getting the Harry Potter ones later this week. The book is a lot of fun to color though I have a small portion of the first page colored.
